It is graphically impressive it may not be the best game you have ever seen from a visual sense, but it is smooth, crisp, and generally a quite a beautiful game. You can light candles throughout the house to make your path clearer. Various items can be picked up in the game that help you along the way and there are multiple endings possible to playthrough.Īs the name suggests, lighting plays a big part in the game and the first thing you notice when entering the house is how dark it is. The aim of the game is to collect 5 items, or magatamas, whilst avoiding spiritual entities that look to chase you down as soon as you encounter them. The game is played from a first-person perspective and follows the player into an old Japanese house after the character trails an instinctive childhood memory whilst walking through an alley. Shadow Corridor is a relatively obscure Japanese survival horror game with puzzle and exploration elements. Ikenie no Yoru (イケニエノヨル / Night of the Sacrifice) It's a bit cumbersome sometimes to play it on iPad and could benefit from adding controller support in the future. I felt sadness and frustration as I opened doors and found no one behind them, but the emotional payoff was so bittersweet and satisfying. While playing, I found myself turning on all the lights in the game to stave off the unnerving feeling of being alone in this deserted house. As a die-hard mystery game fan, I found Gone Home immersive, engrossing and emotional. The tension created in the game through sheer mystery is almost more frightening than if there were jump scares. Collect clues and unravel what happened to your family while you were gone. Explore all the nooks and crannies of the sprawling house. When you arrive home (in the middle of a thunderstorm no less), your family has seemingly vanished. You play as Katie Greenbriar, home from a year-long trip in Europe. Gone Home will suck you in from the very start. Worth noting that Netflix bought Night School Studio - the game's developer - in late September as part of its push towards gaming. Plus, Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals is coming in 2022, so now is a perfect time to play (or replay!) the original game. It's a quick game you could play in one sitting, but there's multiple endings so you can always go back. Oxenfree calls itself a "supernatural teen thriller," but deftly avoids tropes and cliches, providing characters with depth and a fascinating, eerie plot. I can't speak highly enough of this choice-based game. Soon the group is fighting for survival, struggling through time loops, and doubting if everyone is truly who they say they are. OxenfreeĪ group of friends hanging out on a beach take a turn for the worse when the teens accidentally open a ghostly rift.
